Very close to several museums, operas, theaters and churches. A few minutes walk takes you to the Rossio, in the Baixa, and to the Elevador da Lavra. The other direction, you will reach the Praça do Comércio, which is located in the center of the Portuguese old empire near the river Tejo (Tagus). To go to Sintra you must take the train at Rossio. To go to Óbidos you have Entre-Campos train station or Campo-Grande bus station, which is just a short subway trip from Chiado.
