For a day at the races, Hexham racecourse is just 20 minutes’ away. For those who enjoy walking, Henshaw is set on the edge of the Northumberland National Park. The location is excellent for exploring the spectacular scenery of the north of England, the Scottish borderland and the Lake District National Park, which is just an hour away. In just a 20-minute walk you can discover the famous Vindolanda Roman Fort, The Sill Landscape Discovery Centre and the world famous Sycamore Gap on Hadrian’s Wall.
The historic market town of Hexham is a must, which boasts a stunning abbey, the oldest gaol in the country and an abundance of eclectic shops, restaurants and pubs. Continue to the beautiful Roman town of Corbridge and meander round its boutique shops, art galleries and antique shops, stop for a coffee or take a stroll along the river. Locally there is an abundance of eateries to choose from. A nearby inn serving good food and ales offers astronomers a stargazing experience and lies just a 20-minute walk away.
