The most well-liked hikes in the area are those along Tennyson Down and Afton Down, the latter of which hosted the renowned Isle of Wight Music Festival in 1970. The Photographic Galleries and Dimbola Museum are located at the base of Tennyson Down. Just south-west of Freshwater lies the Needles Pleasure Park in Alum Bay, which features coloured sand cliffs and a chairlift to the beach. A little farther away, on the Isle of Wight's northern shore, is Cowes, the world's foremost yachting hub. East Cowes is the location of Osborne House, the former residence of Queen Victoria. The British Poet Laureate, Alfred Lord Tennyson, once resided at the close-by Farringford Hotel on the edge of Freshwater Bay, and over time, the West Wight region has drawn many renowned writers, painters, and poets. This is an excellent location for a relaxing vacation because Yarmouth, a seaside town, is nearby with its bustling harbour and pier, shops, inns, restaurants, and majestic Tudor castle.
