With the Wolds Way and the Centenary Way right on your doorstep, this cottage is a walkers’ paradise. The Wolds Way travels across the rolling countryside taking in stunning scenery and wildlife, whilst the lesser known Centenary Way passes through the Howardian Hills and the Wolds via Castle Howard, making it a truly delightful walk with riverside sections and forests to trail through. For those with a dog, this is a really fantastic place to stay with such an abundance of walks and hikes right on your doorstep. The owners even provide facilities for the dogs to be washed down after a long day out rambling. The Yorkshire Wolds have been made famous by the artist David Hockney, who was inspired by the miles of rolling hills and beautiful scenery.
The cottages are situated on a working farm, with both livestock and arable crops. Perched on the hills above Flixton, they have sea views in the distance. At the front of the cottages you will see lots of wildlife - from hares boxing to the odd fox or deer crossing the fields. For birdwatchers, there are many species to spot, especially the owls hunting at dusk.
Yorkshire is famous for its stately homes, and Sledmere House is just a short drive away, a stunning Georgian property with gardens designed by Capability Brown. With its beautiful, Gothic minster and cobbled streets, it is a vibrant city with something for everybody. Hull, voted the City of Culture 2017, is also within an hour’s drive and hosts concerts, festivals and shows. The market towns of Beverley and Driffield are great places to spend an afternoon wandering around the shops and market, then stopping at one of the great cafés or bistros around the squares.
